A seminar on “Water and Sanitation for All in Bangladesh: Challenges in Achieving SDG 6” was held at SIMEC Institute of Technology, Uttara, Dhaka, on 16 August 2025. The seminar was jointly organized by SIMEC Research Center and SIMEC Institute of Technology, Dhaka.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Nasir Uddin Khan, Waste Management Specialist, UK, and Managing Director of Adroit Environment Consultants Ltd., highlighted the critical challenges Bangladesh faces in achieving SDG 6, including widespread water contamination, inadequate sewage treatment, and poor sanitation infrastructure, all of which pose significant public health risks. He emphasized the need for cost-effective, community-driven solutions for safe water, sewage, and waste management using local resources and modern technologies. Dr. Khan further stressed that ensuring universal access to clean water and sanitation is not only a development goal but also a fundamental human right, essential for health, dignity, and sustainable growth.
Participants also shared their insights on the topic and discussed the initial steps needed to overcome these challenges. The seminar was moderated by Professor Dr. S. M. Shameem Reza, Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Dhaka.
